Ancestral Roots Travel  -  Based in Shropshire, England, Ancestral Roots Travel specializes in creating customized travel itineraries for people interested in tracing their families' historical roots. This is the company Anne used in February 2007. They arranged everything from the rental car to all of the outstanding B&B's to a geneologist who accompanied Anne to the county record offices to research old records. Their attention to detail is impeccable, and they offer itineraries throughout Europe. Wonderful service!

Spire House  -  The Spire House Bed & Breakfast is just across the street from beautiful Salisbury Cathedral. It is also just 8 miles or so from Stonehenge, and is a great central location for visiting all of Wiltshire, with its awesome neolithic sites like Avebury, and fascinating Roman history. John and Lois Faulkner are your gracious hosts here.

Blackmore Farm  -  Step back in time to the days of King Henry VIII when you stay at Blackmore Farm in Cannington, near Bridgwater. This is a working dairy farm with a manor house that makes you feel like a king. Each guest room has its own unique personality and special features. Enormous breakfasts are served in the great hall with its medieval suit of armour and a roaring fire to warm you in the chilly weather. For the best steak and ale pie anywhere, pop just down the lane to the Maltshovel Pub, where you'll meet new friends who'll feel more like family. Warm and hospitable Ann and Ian Dyer own Blackmore Farm.

The Grove, Bath  -  You can almost see Jane Austen strolling through the gardens of this very gracious, historic and elegantly furnished Georgian house, sitting high on a hill overlooking the beautiful city of Bath. With luxurious linens and sumptuous decor, towel warmers and shelves piled high with interesting books, you'll feel like a pampered friend. The Grove is a comfortable walking distance from the Roman Baths down the hill in the center of Bath. Owned by renowned sculptor Robert Hornyold-Strickland, The Grove is absolutely perfect for a calming getaway or a longer visit to this most beautiful of cities.

Winstone Glebe  -  Set amid the rolling pastures of the Cotswolds, Winstone is a lovely small village of warm,honey-colored stone houses that was listed in the Domesday Survey of 1085 A.D. The tiny village church dates back 1000 years to the time of the Saxons. It's easy to feel like you are living in the pages of the book, "All Things Bright And Beautiful", as you walk through the pastures full of grazing sheep. "Peaceful" is an understatement here. At winstone Glebe, you will sleep deeply in warm, cozy beds piled with comforters. It is elegant country living the way people like Prince Charles experience it. He lives just down the road, in this beautiful county of Gloucestershire. Antique stores abound in the interestingly-named villages: Moreton-on-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-Water. You can easily walk from village to village across the pastures; thousands do each year. Or drive to visit Warwick Castle, or Stratford-Upon-Avon. Shaun and Susanna Parsons are the gracious owners and hosts at Winstone Glebe. And they have the most adorable little dogs ever.

Stable Court  -  South of London, in glorious rural Sussex, there is an exquisite Tudor barn and stables that have been lovingly converted to an elegant country estate home. The guest suite is really luxurious, with an enormous tiled bath and electric towel warmers. The feather comforter on the bed looks and feels like a puffy cloud. Peter and Francoise Toynton are so warm and friendly. They love their life, and truly enjoy meeting and hosting people in their very special home.Visiting with them is a real pleasure. Stable Court is an easy half-hour drive to Gatwick International Airport.

Wolsey Lodges  -  Most of the B&B's Anne and her husband stayed at in England belong to an association called Wolsey Lodges. They represent the creme de la creme of bed and breakfast experiences in the UK, France, Spain and Italy. Try them for your next trip, and you may never want to come home.
